COC-NSO: Governance Series

The COC-NSO: Governance Series is comprised of five webinars plus an optional session, which include: - Board Structure, Roles and Responsibilities: In this webinar, participants will be equipped with the knowledge about what an effective board structure looks like, define barriers to effective governance and characteristics of well-governed organizations, and determine ways that management can support the board. - Building Diverse and Inclusive Boards: In this webinar, participants will understand how culture (beyond national cultures) impacts behaviours that are critical to team success, explore how to bridge differences in a constructive and inclusive way, examine ways to recruit and interview that can lead to more diverse and inclusive boards, and work with a tool that can help boards recognize the different approaches and styles that each individual (regardless of their national culture) brings to the table. - Strategy and Planning: In this webinar, participants will understand the important role that boards play in the strategy process and contribute to its development, exercising oversight of it as it unfolds. - Financial Strategy and Control: In this webinar, participants will review key financial statements, how to interpret financial patterns and trends, and the role and responsibilities of the auditor and audit committee. They will be equipped with the necessary skills to make the best use of financial information. - Risk Management and Conflict of Interest: In this webinar, participants will define duties of the board in terms of decision making and identify, report and deal with conflicts of interest. They will learn to define risk and how to measure and manage it by examining environmental, political and strategic risks. Participants will discuss best board practices for risk management and discover alternative means of assigning responsibility for risk management. - Optional Session: Finance Fundamentals: In this webinar, participants will understand the essentials of accrual accounting and learn how to read financial statements. Participants will nurture their essential skills in handling financial information.
